Five on Friday: Fall Jewelry

Today I'm joining  April, Natasha, Christina for the Five on Friday link up!  I've tried to keep posts about my jewelry business to a minimum on here.  I never want it to appear that I'm only using this platform to sell my stuff, because that's not the case at all.  But my little jewelry business has become a huge part of my life lately, so I figured I'd post five of my favorite styles for fall.  These are all available in my Etsy shop, and I'm offering 30% off of your total purchase if you use the code REEDYREVIEW for the next week!

1. Ox Bone Tusk Necklace

Is there a new style that you'd love to see for fall? Let me know, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Life Lately

Here's a little update on what's been going on in our world lately.  I've been a little slack on the blog-front this week, so I figured I'd throw everything interesting going on into one hodgepodge of a post.

Last weekend, T and I took George down to the river walk in our neighborhood.  Our new neighborhood has some great amenities, but by far my favorite is their river walk along the Enoree river.  It was the perfect day, and George loved playing in the water.  I'm hoping to get back there this weekend for another morning stroll or two.

Confession: I troll several of our local Facebook consignment groups obsessively.  I'm constantly scrolling through the feeds to see what kind of goodies are on there.  I just scooped this dresser up for $40, and the matching two side tables for $5 a piece.  They need a little TLC, probably a new coat of chalk paint and new hardware, but they are sturdy and beautiful.  Thank goodness my husband puts up with me when I tell him I just bought something and to go hook the trailer to the car.

This will be by first chalk paint project, and I'm excited and nervous at the same time.  I'm thinking I'll go with Annie Sloan Paris Grey.  If you have any knowledge about chalk paint or any advice for a first timer, I'd love to hear it!

Earlier today I made an impulse purchase that I'm super excited about.  I have wanted a pair of leopard sneakers for a while, and just saw that Old Navy had theirs on sale for $14.  I cannot wait to wear these this fall!  I'm also in LOVE with these d'orsay flats, but was so bummed to see they're sold out in my size.  Darned small feet.

Hoping y'all are having a great week so far, so excited that tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Taking Care of Hydrangeas

I love having fresh flowers in the house.  I try to budget buying one or two bouquets every week at the grocery store so that we can have something fresh in our house at all times.  T thinks it's the biggest waste of money, but it makes me happy, so he can deal.

Nothing frustrates me more than to buy flowers and have them wilt and die within days of purchasing them.  It's a complete waste of money.  And it doesn't bode well in my argument to my husband that flowers are worth the expense.

Last week on a Trader Joes run, I picked up two bouquets of white hydrangeas.  I noticed that they had a little sign in front of them with some instructions, so I snapped a quick photo.  I followed the instructions when I got home, and I am shocked at how well it's worked!  The flowers in the picture below are a WEEK old.

Hydrangea Care:

1. Cut with garden shears or serrated knife while under water so no air pockets go up the stem
2. Hammer gently to crush the tip, about 1/2 to 1 inch
3. Place in vase and pour 1 Tbsp of any citrus soda in the water.  The acid helps stop bacteria growth and the sugar helps feed the flower
4. Spritz leaves with water to keep them looking fresh

Now, I didn't follow these directions perfectly.  We didn't have any citrus soda, so I used a squeeze of lime juice in one of the vases to test it out.  That vase is pictured below, and you can see those blooms aren't doing as well as the ones in the first picture.  I'll try a glug of sprite in each vase next time to see if it makes any difference.  Each morning I spritz the petals and leaves with water to keep them moist.  I also plan on changing the water out this afternoon since we've just hit the week mark.  But, by the looks of these, I feel confident that they'll be looking good for a least another 3-4 days.  Definitely worth the $5.99 price tag.

I was so amazed at the success of this, that I just had to share!

Our Weekend

This weekend we hosted T's family at our house. It's great to finally have a house big enough to host his whole family without someone having to stay in a hotel or on an air mattress.  We loved our 2 bed 1 bath bungalow, but hosting family in it was always tough.

T's sister and her husband have the sweetest little 6 month old, Caroline.  Not only is she precious, but she's the most easy going happy baby I've ever seen.  We loved getting to spend time with her this weekend.  Friday night we took it easy and had burgers on the grill.  I served them with slaw and these potatoes which were quite a hit.   Saturday's schedule was dictated by what football games were on, but we ladies were able to escape for a few hours to do some shopping at Charleston Cooks.

On Saturday night we headed to downtown Greer for drinks and dinner.  We're still very close to downtown Greenville, but it was fun to go into the quaint downtown of Greer for a change. We first stopped at Stomping Grounds for some beer and wine before dinner. This place was so cute inside.  They had couches and tables all around, board games to play, and a band was setting up just as we were leaving.  It's a coffee shop during the day, and at night it turns into a wine bar.  They also had a really good looking brunch menu, to T and I plan to return soon for a weekend brunch.

After drinks, we walked up the street to dinner at the Great Bay Oyster house.  Dinner was pretty good.  Not the best seafood I've ever had, but pretty good.  T ordered oysters and said they were very fresh.  I had a Catch of the Day sandwich, but probably should have gone for the oysters.

On Sunday, I got the bright idea that I wanted to stain seal our deck.  The weather was so beautiful outside, and I figured I might as well take advantage of the cooler temps to get some outdoor work done.  Our deck had decades of dirt and grime built up on it.  Thankfully T took several hours last weekend to clean it, so that part was already done.  Four hours and a can of wood stain and sealer later, the deck looked almost brand new.  I was shocked at how much better it looked!

Hope y'all had a great weekend as well!

Our Weekend

This weekend my sister April visited along with her husband Ian and their daughter Camille.  On Saturday, the boys went to Clemson for the first football game while April and I stayed in Greenville with Camille.  That morning we took a walk down by the River on our neighborhood's walking trail.  Camille loved this.  She could't stop staring at the rushing water and pointing and saying "wa-wa, wa-wa".  Later that day we hit up a new fast food joint down the street where I gave her her first taste of milkshake, which she was a giant fan of.  Sorry, April.

The boys returned home after the game, and we spent the rest of the evening relaxing on our back patio.  The temperatures dropped just a bit for Saturday night and it felt so good out.  I'm not a fan of fall, but I can appreciate a slight drop in our blazing South Carolina temperatures.

Having a 15 month old in the house was quite a change for us.  We definitely had an atypical weekend.  Bedtimes were much earlier, and we had a 6:30 AM wake up call each morning to a little voice yelling "dog-dog" on repeat.   Camille couldn't get enough of George, and T and I couldn't get enough of her.  I just cherish every moment we get to spend with that little girl!

Hope y'all had a great weekend, too!

Three Years

I can't believe it, but today T and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary. This morning I was being nostalgic and looking through all of our wedding photos, and it occurred to me that I never really shared many wedding photos on the here.  I think I was in a blogging slump right around the time we received our photos.

I'm sure every married couple says the same thing, but our wedding was one of the best nights of our lives. We got married in the heart of Greenville at our favorite restaurant The Lazy Goat. We rented out the whole place and had the ceremony upstairs and the reception downstairs. Downtown Greenville provided the perfect backdrop for all of our photos, and for our ceremony we stood in front of big windows overlooking the Reedy River.

The reception was very rustic feeling with long wood tables, muted tones, and mismatched chairs.  We were also able to use my grandparents' cake topper from the 40's, which I loved. But once it turned dark, the party started. We got really lucky with our band. We'd never even heard them play before, but they set the tone for the entire evening. They even let my dad have a turn on the drums. The dance floor was packed until it was time to go, and as parting gifts to our guests we served McDonalds cheeseburgers.
